SharEuregio
Rent a sharing car in Germany and drive across the Dutch border to your business meeting or explore the border region comfortably by e-bike? The German-Dutch border region is a pilot region for the sharing of electric cars and bicycles where you can do just that.
The city of Venlo, as project manager, together with the city of Roermond, the district of Viersen and its business development agency, and the city of Mönchengladbach together with the WFMG, has set itself the goal of creating a large-scale, flexible and electromobile bike and car sharing system over the next four years. The project aims to promote electric car and bicycle mobility and, above all, to support cross-border mobility. By reducing the number of trips in vehicles with combustion engines, it also contributes to air pollution control in the region.
The sharing scheme of the municipalities is supported by the regional energy provider NEW on the German side and the Dutch sharing provider eMTB. Both partners already have experience with their own sharing systems, but so far not across borders. The plan is to expand the charging infrastructure and launch a booking and billing app to enable journeys throughout the entire border area. All important customer information is to be made available on a platform with the working title “e-mobility as a service”. The Dutch company GreenFlux and NEW will be responsible for ensuring that everything works on both sides of the border and for the technical aspects such as intelligent charging using renewable energies. Aachen University of Applied Sciences provides scientific support for the project.
The SHAREuregio project is supported by the INTERREG programme of the European Union. In addition to the INTERREG grant from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), SHAREuregio receives financial support from the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia (MWIDE) and the Dutch province of Limburg.
